Part-time Veterans’ Advocate

The Veterans’ Advocate will be responsible for responding to the veterans’ needs at Jackson Street Commons and will work under the direct supervision of the Lead Veterans’ Advocate. The Advocate will provide mentoring and teaching of life skills. The Advocate will conduct follow up on situations of the day such as wellness checks, assisting residents with problem solving and directing them to local resources. The Advocate will act as building supervisor, by conducting rounds / walk-through while on duty. The Advocate will document and respond to building issues if they arise and will enter case notes in the homeless management information system. The Advocate may supervise residents conducting chores in or around the building and may assist with clean-up, custodial tasks or organizing donations. The Advocate may work in high stress and emergency situations at times. A job description is attached for more details of the position.

Requirements include a high school degree or equivalent and experience in crisis intervention, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution is a plus. The applicant must be able to work independently, have the ability to follow oral and written instructions, communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, volunteers and the public, operate standard office equipment including computers, copiers and FAX machines, and follow safety and security practices and procedures. Evening and weekend hours required.

Clinton County Home Visitor - Part-time Bi-lingual.

Family Service Association is looking for a part-time bi-lingual home visitor to provide education and support to families with young children living in Clinton County. Requirements include reliable transportation, basic computer skills, good writing skills, good listening skills, compassion and ability to speak Spanish fluently. Prefer applicants with some college education, who have experience working with parents and children, and who live in Clinton County. May be able to work from home. EOE. Program Assistant/Clerical - PRN

Responsibilities: Assist with clerical duties at the reception area, such as, answering the telephone, responding to requests for assistance, greeting guests, sorting incoming mail, receiving payments, writing receipts, and processing incoming faxes. The Program Assistant also assists with the Non-Violence Education Classes, such as, registering participants, accepting payments, and tracking attendance for participants and will assist with other programs, as needed, such as, entering client information and maintaining records accurately within the database system.

Requirements: High School diploma or general education (GED). Ability to work with people and learn new skills. Must have good computer, writing and communication skills, experience in Microsoft Office software, and the ability to learn other software programs currently in use.

Work schedule: The PRN Program Assistant/Clerical Worker is a part-time position contacted on an as-needed basis and the number of hours per week will vary according to the needs of the agency. Evening and weekend hours are required. There is no guarantee of a minimum number of hours per week. Regular weekly hours are possible but not guaranteed.

Part-time Domestic Violence Program - Advocate - (midnights: 12 a.m. to 8 a.m.) may include weekends and other shifts.

The Advocate will assist clients residing at the Domestic Violence Shelter. Advocates are responsible for answering and operating the telephone system including crisis calls. Additionally, advocates are responsible for completing client intakes, ensuring that the client receives orientation (and understands the policies and procedures), and completing the client exit paperwork. They are further responsible for completing daily paperwork, unlocking doors, keeping record of where all clients are located, advocacy and in general assisting clients through an extremely difficult time.

Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, some college in a relevant field is preferred, computer skills and excellent communication skills including being comfortable with public speaking. Preference given to individuals who have experience working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Reliable transportation is a must. First Aid, Infant/Adult CPR, and Universal Precautions training required. These trainings may be obtained within the first six months of employment.
