About Family Service of Howard County

About  Us

Our organization is called Family Service Association because Family is our main focus. We offer different programs to help families, like teaching new parents how to take care of their children and providing homes for veterans who don’t have one. We also give shelter to women, men, and children who have been mistreated, and we work to stop child abuse from happening. Every family goes through tough times, and we’re here to help them become strong so they can handle life’s challenges. When things get difficult, remember us – Family Service Association is like your umbrella in the storm.

Our History

Family Service Association of Howard County, Inc. started in 1968 as a non-profit organization. It’s approved by the IRS as a charitable organization. Originally, FSA provided counseling to low-income families. Today, we still focus on helping low-income families with various programs, including counseling, a Domestic Violence Shelter, and parent training.

Our volunteer Board of Directors guides FSA, deciding on programs and policies. We have paid staff for most services, but volunteers are vital in Child Abuse Prevention and Domestic Violence Programs. If you’re interested in volunteering, call us!

Since 1969, FSA has been a United Way agency, supporting their campaigns and events. We value transparency and undergo annual audits by independent auditors. We don’t discriminate based on sex, race, color, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, or handicap in employment or service delivery. You can review our audits and IRS Form 990 during business hours for a small charge.
